The Historic St. Louis Carousel House | Indoor Things to Do in St. Louis with Kids

Welcome to Day 8 of 21 Days of Indoor Play! Today we are visiting a spot that is pure nostalgia and magic: the St. Louis Carousel at Faust Park. While Faust Park is famous for the Butterfly House and its massive playground, the Carousel House is one of the best indoor "secret weapons" for St. Louis parents. It’s a climate-controlled building that houses a stunning, hand-carved 1920s carousel, making it a perfect year-round escape whether you're hiding from a summer heatwave or a winter chill.

A Piece of St. Louis History

This isn't just any merry-go-round. This carousel was originally built in the 1920s and was a staple at the old Forest Park Highlands amusement park. It’s the only thing that survived a massive fire there in 1963! Today, it’s been beautifully restored with:

  • 60 Hand-Carved Horses & 4 Deer: My kids love picking out a new animal every time we visit.
  • Two Sleighs: Perfect for parents with babies or kids who want a smoother, non-moving seat.
  • The Music: The classic band organ music immediately makes it feel like a party
