For some, crossing state lines may signify a vacation, but just a few minutes from St. Louis lies Edwardsville - a quaint town brimming with delights for families. From the Southern Illinois University Edwardsville (SIUE) campus to a variety of restaurants and coffee shops, there's no shortage of attractions to explore. Among the town's treasures is the Edwardsville Children's Museum, a place where young hearts find joy and learning hand in hand.

Though not affiliated with the reciprocal network of children's museums, the Edwardsville Children's Museum is undoubtedly worth the ticket price. It may be smaller in size compared to some other museums, but it boasts an incredible outdoor area that nearly doubles the square footage of play areas. I would advise to leave their double strollers behind, as the museum may feel a bit tight, making babywearing a preferred option. Designed for children already walking, this museum is a paradise for little adventurers ready to explore.

Upon entering, a large magnetic wall greets visitors, adorned with tons of magnets and toys to spark creativity.  The left-hand side of the museum offers a hands-on exploration of science, engineering, and math. An array of engaging activities awaits, including a ball ramp with a ladder, a race car derby ramp, and numerous open-ended building toys.

On the right-hand side, the community helpers imagination area comes to life. For many children, the police motorcycle is the star attraction. The area boasts an ambulance, dentist office, flower shop, firehouse - complete with firetrucks to play with and firefighter costumes, a veterinarian clinic, even a post office. Visitors should note the veterinarian clinic is also a climbable tower leading to an upper level. While exciting for kids, it did cause a moment of concern for myself when I couldn't find Rhett for a few minutes. The upper level features the continuation of the veterinary clinic, a schoolroom, and a cozy setting filled with puzzles and an art station.

Venturing to the back, families find a clean and toddler-friendly bathroom and another playroom. The garden boasts a forest, a treehouse, a pizza parlor, a farmers market, and a hospital nursery - a world of imagination waiting to unfold.
