There we were, as a newly engaged couple. Like babies learning to walk, we were trying to figure out who we would be as a married couple. We each brought baggage to the table, full of failures and regrets but also saw the dreams and callings of a future we were merging together. Emails poured in from our friends with "just wanted you to know what you're getting yourself into" and "did they tell you they did this in the past?".
That's when we realized it was time for us to break up.
We sat down to have the talk with each other, starring at our coffees in almost embarrassment that we even had to discuss this. You see, we weren't breaking up with each other. We were breaking up with our so- called friends. Friends that we hadn't talked to in years but they had felt the need to send us messages reminding us of our past faults and failures.
Their messages did nothing but cause us to question if God’s grace was big enough to cover our mistakes. The Enemy is wise to use words that will attack your thoughts, make you question God’s grace and love, and kill the beauty of a marriage that God has put together.
Surround yourself with true friends who believe in your marriage, those that will hold up their shield of faith over your household when you want to crumble, who will remind you of His unfailing love, and hold you accountable to create a beautiful marriage God has put together.
Every single day, pray over your marriage. Every. Single. Day. pray Ephesians 6:10-18 over your marriage. Cover you, your spouse, and your marriage to withstand the attacks of the Enemy.
"Finally, be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power. Put on the full armor of God, so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes. For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms. Therefore put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand. Stand firm then, with the belt of truth buckled around your waist, with the breastplate of righteousness in place, and with your feet fitted with the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace. In addition to all this, take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one. Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit,which is the word of God. And pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests.With this in mind, be alert and always keep on praying for all the Lord’s people."
