Faux Limewash Brick

how to white wash your fireplace

When J and I dream of houses, it usually involves a lime washed exterior with a large front porch, or even a wrap around porch. I love white brick, and the weathered feel lime wash gives it.

When we moved into our house last year I knew I wanted to lime wash the fireplace. I'm not super fond of red bricks, nor did the colors fit into the color palette of our home.

This was the living room when we first bought the house.

After we moved in!

I looked at a few blogs and watched some home decorating friends on Instagram do parts of their home and it looked super time extensive and a bit pricier than I had planned.

I'm not about that life.

I dug around some more and found an article on Lowe's on how to white wash your brick.

It. Was. So. Easy.

I had everything on hand and it took me an hour from start to finish.

Total cost: $0!

To start, I vacuumed our fireplace then washed it down with TSP.

Tape off carpet and glass so paint splatter won't stick.

Mix 1 part paint with 1 part water. Stir.

Using a spray bottle, dampen a section of the brick.

With a rough paint brush, apply paint and water mixture. It may drip, just brush it in or use a damp cloth to catch any access paint.

Repeat until all sections of the brick is done!

Super easy, right?!

I only did one coat and I love the way it turned out.
