Cleaning Routine for Tuesdays

Today is Tuesday, which means in my weekly cleaning routine, I’m focusing on our bathrooms!

Here's my bathroom cleaning checklist:

Clear the Clutter: Begin by removing any items from countertops, shelves, and shower areas. This will give you clear access to surfaces that need cleaning.

Dust and Sweep: Using a broom or a vacuum, sweep away any dust, hair, or debris from the floors and corners of the bathroom.

Clean the Toilet: Apply the toilet bowl cleaner and let it sit while you clean other areas. Scrub the toilet bowl using a toilet brush, paying special attention to hard-to-reach areas under the rim. Wipe down the exterior of the toilet, including the flush handle.

For a "natural" toilet bowl cleaner, I use:

2 cups baking soda + 30 drops of tea tree oil (mixed well and stored in an airtight glass jar)

When you're ready to clean your toilet, add 1 tablespoon to the toilet bowl, then pour about 1 cup of white vinegar. This will make the childhood volcano experiment happen in the toilet. When it's finished erupting, you can scrub like normal.

Shine the Sink and Countertop: Spray the sink and countertop with Thieves cleaner. Use a sponge or cloth to scrub away toothpaste stains, soap scum, and water spots. Don't forget to clean the faucet handles and any other accessories.

Conquer the Shower and Tub: Apply a 1:1 ratio of Dawn dish soap and vinegar from a spray bottle to the shower walls and tub. Allow it to sit for a few minutes to break down soap scum and grime. Use a scrub brush to clean tiles and grout. For glass shower doors, use vinegar to achieve a streak-free shine.

Mirror Magic: I use a microfiber cleaning cloth and water to clean my mirrors, but you could also use vinegar and paper towel. Buff until they are sparkling and free of streaks.

Floor Finale: Fill a bucket with warm water and Dr. Bronner's Castile Soap. Mop the bathroom floor, starting from the far end and working your way towards the door. Pay attention to corners and areas around the toilet and sink.

Final Touches: Return to the toilet and flush to rinse the bowl cleaner. Wipe down all surfaces you've cleaned with a dry cloth to prevent water spots.

Replace Items: Put back all the items you removed from countertops and shelves. Consider using storage solutions to keep your bathroom organized and clutter-free.

Dispose of Trash: Empty the trash can and replace the bag to keep your bathroom smelling fresh.

Rhett loves helping me clean the bathroom, mainly because the toilet bowl cleaner is just so fun. But one thing I love about our time cleaning on Tuesday is praying that we would have clean hands and a pure heart, then quoting Psalms 24.

The earth and everything in it, the world and its inhabitants, belong to the Lord; for he laid its foundation on the seas and established it on the rivers.

Who may ascend the mountain of the Lord? Who may stand in his holy place?

The one who has clean hands and a pure heart, who has not appealed to what is false, and who has not sworn deceitfully.

He will receive blessing from the Lord, and righteousness from the God of his salvation.

Such is the generation of those who inquire of him, who seek the face of the God of Jacob

Selah

(We like saying this part with lots of voice intonations)

Lift up your heads, you gates! Rise up, ancient doors! Then the King of glory will come in.

Who is this King of glory? The Lord, strong and mighty, the Lord, mighty in battle.

Lift up your heads, you gates! Rise up, ancient doors! Then the King of glory will come in.

Who is he, this King of glory? The Lord of Armies, he is the King of glory.

Selah

I hope you have a great Tuesday cleaning your bathrooms, purifying your heart and cleaning your hands.
