A clean and organized bedroom is not just pleasing to the eye; it can also contribute to a more peaceful and stress-free life. A cluttered, messy bedroom can lead to increased stress and anxiety. I use this time as an opportunity to pray over our bedrooms.
My favorite scripture to pray over our rooms is “when you lie down, you will not be afraid; you will lie down, and your sleep will be pleasant. Proverbs 3:24.
Step 1: Gather Your Supplies
Before you dive into cleaning, gather all the necessary cleaning supplies. You'll need:
1. Trash bags: For decluttering and throwing away items you no longer need.
2. Cleaning solution: Thieves for multipurpose cleaning.
3. Microfiber cloths: Great for dusting and wiping surfaces.
4. Vacuum cleaner: To tackle the floors and carpets.
5. Laundry basket: For collecting dirty laundry.
Step 2: Declutter
Start by decluttering your bedroom. This step makes the cleaning process much easier. Begin by going through your belongings and sorting them into three categories: keep, donate, and trash.
1. **Keep**: Items you want to keep in your bedroom.
2. **Donate**: Items in good condition that you no longer need or want.
3. **Trash**: Items that are broken, damaged, or no longer useful.
Step 3: Dust and Wipe Surfaces
Now that your bedroom is clutter-free, it's time to start cleaning. Dust and wipe down all surfaces, starting from the top and working your way down. Here's a checklist:
1. Ceiling and walls: Use a duster or a microfiber cloth to remove dust and cobwebs. I don't do this every week, but only as needed.
2. Furniture: Dust and polish all furniture surfaces.
3. Windows and mirrors: Use the microfiber glass cleaning cloth for a streak-free shine.
4. Electronics: Dust and wipe down your electronics, including your TV, computer, and any other gadgets.
5. Light fixtures: Remove light fixtures and wash them if possible - again, this not something I do every week, but as needed.
6. Baseboards: Wipe down baseboards to remove dust and grime - same as above, I don't wash my baseboards every week, but as needed.
7. Doorknobs and switches: These high-touch areas need cleaning, too! Especially in the winter where it seems like there's more germs.
Step 4: Vacuum and Clean Floors
Now, it's time to tackle the floors. Vacuum the entire floor, including under the bed and furniture. Pay extra attention to corners and edges. If you have hardwood or tile floors, mop them using a suitable floor cleaner.
Step 5: Launder Bedding and Curtains
Your bedding and curtains can harbor dust and allergens, so it's crucial to wash them regularly. Strip your bed of sheets, pillowcases, and duvet covers, and toss them in the washing machine. Don't forget to clean your pillows and mattress covers as well.
If your curtains are machine washable, take them down and launder them according to the care instructions. If not, you can use a handheld vacuum or a fabric brush to remove dust.
Step 6: Organize and Rearrange
As you put your bedroom back together, take the opportunity to reorganize and rearrange if needed. Consider how you can optimize your storage space to keep your room clutter-free in the long run. This might involve getting some storage bins or shelves.
Step 7: Add Personal Touches
Now that your bedroom is sparkling clean and organized, add some personal touches to make it feel cozy and inviting. This could include placing fresh flowers in a vase!
I hope that after cleaning your room, you will lie down, and your sleep will be pleasant!
