Installing Faux Shiplap

J is from the great state of Texas where amazing taquerias are on every corner, time is a little slower, people are a little nicer, and older homes have shiplap. Chip and Jo love them some shiplap and I do, too!

I wanted to add shiplap to every wall, but that was a little extreme, so I chose the one wall in the foyer.

It was super easy to install and only took us one evening to finish.

I found this shiplap at Menard's and really loved it. Menard's is great for having things on sale with a mail-in rebate. When we purchased these they were on sale for about $6 a piece. Before you go, measure your wall to determine how many planks you will need.

You will also need liquid nail, caulk gun, nails, and depending on your measurements, a circular saw.

1. Remove the baseboards.

2. Wash down your wall to rid it of any dust or debris. Find and mark your wall joints, every 16 inches.

3. Cut your planks down according to the desired lengths.

4. Using the caulk gun and liquid nail, run the glue down the back of the plank in a zig-zag motion.

5. Place plank flesh against the wall, pressing firmly for a few seconds. Use a level throughout to make sure your planks are level.

6. Secure the plank every 16 inches, in the joints of the wall, by placing a nail close to the edge of the tongue.

This shiplap was so easy to install because of the tongue and grove, so just keep repeating that process until your wall is covered.

Super easy and not too expensive way to add some character to any wall. We really like the way it turned out and I'm considering add this shiplap to other areas in the house because it was so easy!
