The Discovery Zone at Daniel Boone Branch Library | Day 1 of 21 Days of Indoor Play in St. Louis

Welcome to Day 1 of 21 Days of Indoor Play! Today we are visiting one of our absolute favorite libraries in West County: the Daniel Boone Branch of the St. Louis County Library.

If you haven't been to this branch lately, you are missing out on one of the coolest free play spaces in the area. The entire lower floor is a dedicated Discovery Zone designed to let kids explore, learn, and—most importantly—get those wiggles out while you browse for your next stack of books!

Why Kids Love the Discovery Zone

This isn't your typical quiet library corner. The Discovery Zone is a vibrant, interactive space that feels more like a mini-museum. My kids head straight for:

The Indoor Slide: Yes, a real slide inside the library! It’s the star of the show and the perfect way to burn off some energy.

Pneumatic Tubes: These are a total "wow" factor. Kids can put colorful scarves into the tubes and watch them race through the clear pipes across the ceiling.

Interactive Light Wall: Think of a giant, wall-sized Lite Brite! It’s amazing for creative play and fine motor skills.

Digital Literacy Screens: They have large-format touch screens loaded with educational games that my oldest loves.

The Crooked House: A whimsical little playhouse that is perfect for imaginative play and ducking away with a good book.

Youth Programming & Storytimes

I love that we can pair a play session with some of their amazing youth programming. They have something for every age group:

Lap Time: For the babies and crawlers (Mondays at 10:00 a.m.).

2-Year-Old Story Time: Perfect for that high-energy toddler stage (Tuesdays at 10:00 a.m.).

Discovery Club: For the older kids (ages 7-11) who want to dive into science experiments and slime-making!

Saturday Storytime: A great weekend option for the whole family (Saturdays at 11:00 a.m.).
