Kirkwood Indoor Play: The Interactive Children’s Room at Kirkwood Public Library

Welcome to Day 7 of 21 Days of Indoor Play! If you’ve spent any time in Kirkwood, you know this community loves its library. But if you haven't stepped into the Kirkwood Public Library Children’s Room lately, you are in for a treat.

It’s not just a place for books—it’s a high-tech, high-touch play destination. With its iconic train theme and interactive technology, it’s one of the best free ways to spend a rainy morning in St. Louis.Watch

Our Kirkwood Library Tour!

The Iconic Kirkwood Train Station

Right when you walk in, you’re greeted by a beautiful replica of the Kirkwood Train Station.

The Reading Train: Kids can actually hop inside a large, colorful train to sit and read. It’s a great way to make literacy feel like an adventure.

Interactive Floor Projector: This is a huge hit! The library features a floor projector that reacts to the kids' movements—perfect for getting those wiggles out when it’s too cold for the park.

Smart Tables & 3D Printing: For the older kids, the library is packed with technology designed for collaboration. They even have a 3D printer and unique "Maker" kits you can explore.

Programming for Every Little Learner

The library staff here is incredible at keeping the calendar full of activities. My kids are always excited for:
  • Play-Doh Fridays: A dedicated hour of sensory fun (registration is usually required for this one!).
  • Books for Babies & Baby Yoga: Perfect for the under-2 crowd to work on those motor skills and social connections.
  • LEGO Club: Once a month, builders can come together and create masterpieces that get displayed in the library for a whole week
  • Parent Power Kits: I love these! They are grab-and-go kits designed to help parents navigate everything from potty training to new siblings through books and activities.
