Here is exactly why this space stands out for families:
1. Immersive Pretend Play
The standout for my kids was the 1904 World’s Fair food stand with lots of play food and even a cool vintage cash register. My favorite was the cotton candy, which was called 'Fairy Floss' in the 1904 World's fair. They also have costumes a-plenty, so your kids can fully transform into a 1900s ice cream vendor or a steamboat captain.
2. Local History for Little Hands
The museum does an incredible job of making heavy history accessible.
The Cahokia Tribe: In the Native American area, kids learn about the ancient mound-builders of our region through hands-on play in the ancient city of Caho.
The Steamboat: This is a huge hit—it's a massive structure where kids can steer the wheel and imagine life on the Mississippi.
The Puppet Theater: A great spot for kids to put on their own historical "performances" with woodland animals.
The Art Exhibit: Color a beautiful masterpiece like those who would showcase their art at the World's Fair.
