How to Make Homemade Laundry Detergent

This is probably the most asked I get on Instagram so I figured I should probably write a post about it! Thankfully, J was also down to make a video if that's more of your thing!

My love for Dr. Bronner's Castile Soap runs deep. If you follow me on Instagram, you know I use it for a good majority of my cleaning supplies- including my laundry soap! I use this on all our laundry, including our cloth diapers. I've never had a problem with soap build up on the diapers nor having to ever "strip" our clothes because of the build up.

One question I always get is why not just the castile soap like it says on the bottle. While you can totally do that, I've never done it. I add Baking Soda to help keep my whites white. Washing soda for added cleaning and freshening, plus it's good if you have hard water. Salt helps removes stains.

You will need:
1/2 cup Dr. Bronner's Castile Soap (I like lavender for laundry)
1/2 cup Baking Soda
1/2 cup Washing Soda
1/4 cup Salt
Water
Large Container for storage (I DO NOT recommend a 5 gallon bucket for storage as it could be a drowning hazard.)
Essential Oils (optional)

In 2 quarts boiling water, mix 1/2 cup Baking Soda, 1/2 cup Washing Soda, and 1/4 cup Salt until thoroughly dissolved.

Add 2 quarts cold water, and a 1/2 cup Dr. Bronner's Castile Soap. Stir until combined.

I use about a 1/4 cup for each load of laundry!
