Laying Roots

For six months we searched.

We looked for homes in every elementary school zone of the school district I wanted. We looked for homes near the places we most frequently shopped. We looked for homes near the main routes we took to church and work. We looked at over forty homes in varying neighborhoods, varying price ranges, and varying in how much work they needed.

After six months, several contracts written above asking price and still nothing, we were pretty devastated.

But, in the midst of our searching, we found something we didn't know we were missing.

I had never had a relationship with my dad's parents. We would go months without talking to each other and even if we had seen each other, there was nothing to really say.

Somehow, they offered for us to live with them while we looked for a house. We both thought it would only be a few weeks and things would go back to normal, so we agreed.

To say moving in was awkward was saying it kindly.  We were strangers occupying the same place.

But the quiet quickly turned to laughter, evening meals turned to family dinners, Friday's became game night, and awkward turned to love.

For six months, I couldn't wait until the day came that we had our own place to live, but when it finally came, it was bitter sweet.

Thankfully, they were able to come help us get everything together in the new house. My grandpa and J did tons of projects together making sure that everything was up to par and my grandma cleaned, scrubbed, and steamed surfaces that desperately needed it.

We're so excited to lay roots down and call this gorgeous house our home for the time being.

Thanks so much to Mike & Cathy Wunder with Coldwell Banker for finding us our perfect home! If you're looking for a realtor, check her out! ;)
